Isn't this a great use of trays that are easily found in thrift stores?

Jackie Hernandez is a self-taught interior decorator who writes a blog. Find below her list of mistakes that people commonly make when decorating their homes. I think nine of the rules are self-explanatory except #5, the rule of thirds. This is Jackie's explanation:
Ignoring the Rule of Thirds – The rule of thirds is commonly used in photography and art to describe the best place for the subject. Draw imaginary lines on a picture vertically at 1/3 and 2/3, and horizontally at 1/3 and 2/3. Compositions with the subject placed on those lines, especially at the intersection of those lines, are the most interesting. The same rule can be applied when looking at a vignette in your home. Instead of placing an arrangement in the center of the shelf, try placing it 1/3 of the way in from the edge. It is more pleasing to the eye. #dreamlandinteriors #interiordesignrules #jackiehernandez #accessories Use nature to guide you with an indoor design look if you want balance in your room or if you don't know where to start your redecorating project. Mark McCauley's notion is the 3/3 Vertical Rule that he presents in his book Color Therapy At Home: Real-Life Solutions for Adding Color to Your Life. He reminds us how beautiful the balance of nature is. So bring that balance into your home. In the outdoors, the darker elements are near the ground level. The medium elements are in the middle. And, the lighter elements are at the top. Distribute your colors accordingly for a balanced room design. #dreamlandinteriors #MarkMcCauley #colorscheme #roomdesign
INTERIOR DESIGNERS ARE MOSTLY FEMALE. Obviously in 2017, the design profession is open to both sexes.
DESIGNERS JUST WORK WITH PAINT AND FABRIC SWATCHES. Designers study and are rigorously tested annually on space planning, safety regulations, building codes, and inspection regulations. They design not only for beauty and functionality, but for your safety and to assure you that your home or business is being built according to the current codes. INTERIOR DESIGNERS ARE TOO EXPENSIVE. People assume only the rich use interior designers. Designers offer help on any size project. Since they work with suppliers, they can offer you great discounts. Every home big or small is worthy of a good design. The right design can make you proud of your home and can be surprisingly affordable. DESIGNERS ARE DIFFICULT TO WORK WITH. This may be depicted on television for good tv viewing, but in real life a designer has been trained to understand his/her client and deliver on what the client wants. Of course, the client must be clear and concise about his/her wants, needs, and budget. After a careful interview, YOUR space, that you feel comfortable in, will be planned out for your approval. DESIGNERS ARE ALL KNOWING. Once again, the results will please you, if you as the client clearly articulate your personal ideas and needs. Designers may ask for pictures of your dream space. Also the client would be wise to ask to see pictures of past projects that the designer has worked on. I DON'T NEED A DESIGNER. People over estimate their ability to blend form, function, and color together for a pleasing effect. Designers can take you to showrooms that you do not have access to. Designers have earned a 4 year college degree and passed a licensing test to work in the field. They must update their license regularly by continuing their education. Designers are great at working not only with clients, but with contractors, laborers, and the trades. They can save you from a lot of headaches. Start small and I think you will be surprised. #dreamlandinteriors #interiordesign #interiordesignmisconceptions Wayfair.com has a Corelle Sale going on which includes their wide range of dish patterns, storage containers, silverware, etc. Sale extends on their website until Sept. 28, 2017. Where the dogs enter the home, use a dresser or chest to store dog supplies. Purchase a deep colored, washable pet bed that hides stains until washed. If you allow the pet on your bed, throw a washable throw such as a sheet over your bedding. Use fun pieces of china for dog dishes. Avoid linen furniture fabrics if you have pets. Purchase stain repellant fabrics, leather, outdoor fabrics, or floral cottons. Leather is the best choice since it can be wiped down, pet hairs don't stick to it, and it is snag proof. You do still have the issue of it being punctured though. Cats are known to avoid leather, so that should keep them off those particular pieces of furniture. Animal hide carpets placed over your main carpet is inviting to pets and saves the soiling and wear on your main carpet. Tile floors are easier to maintain for pet owners and may be the best choice. #dreamlandinteriors #pets #dogs #cats #entryway #furniturefabrics #dogbed
A brand new marble counter top has a high gloss finish. It is prone to etching if anything acidic touches the stone. You can get a very pronounced ring called etching from a glass that contains something acidic like lemonade. I found a powder on Amazon that is a miracle worker for marble and granite! It is called MB Stone Care. All you need is a little water, a cloth and some elbow grease. Check out their website. They carry other products to care for granite, travertine, grout, mildew and rust removal, sealants, etc. #dreamlandinteriors #marble #mbstonecare #countertopcare #floorcare #showercleaners
It is very exciting to redecorate a room(s). Many people shop for furniture and accessory items at Wayfair, Ethan Allen, Pottery Barn, Restoration Hardware, Pier 1 Imports, etc. But, I wouldn't overlook other sources. I have used some of the following to complete a project:
-Reproduction Houses -Junk and Secondhand Shops -Auctions -Wrecking and Salvage Companies -Thrift and Consignment Shops -Moving and Storage Companies -City Auctions -Flea Markets -Antique Shop -Garage or Rummage Sales -Street Fairs -Bulletin Boards and Classified Ads -Catalogs -Websites #dreamlandinteriors #wayfair #pier1 #pottery barn #restorationhardware #ethanallen Here in Florida, school has started. Find below useful websites for students in the primary grades, grades 6-12, and for college students. My personal favorite educational website is www.khanacademy.org. Wishing you and your family a wonderful 2017-2018 school year.
