What are you trying to accomplish by adding an area rug to an entry way or room?  What is your inspiration?  Is your inspiration the shape of the room, the wall color, the furniture, a material pattern, etc. Remember the rug should unify the objects in the room.

It is customary to leave an 18" border from rug to wall when buying an area rug for a large room and an 8" border if you are furnishing a smaller room.
