According to the U.S. Home Safety Council, more accidents happen in the bathroom than any other room in the house due to the storage of medications and the presence of water sources, electrical outlets and electrical appliances.

It is common sense to safely store supplies, have adults supervise children around water, and clean up slippery surfaces to reduce the chance of injuries.  But in addition, consider the following checklist to insure everyone's safety.

Bathroom safety checklist:
1.  Keep water heater set at 120 degrees or less to prevent scalding.
2.  Check that electrical outlets are grounded (GFCI).
3.  Equip showers and tubs with non-skid suction cup mats or textured strips.
4.  Use bar soap in tub, not slippery liquid soap.
5.  Have a phone near the bathroom in case of emergencies.
6.  Have a night light in the bathroom.
7. Install grab bars in the tub.  The grab bars come in decorative designs now.  Follow codes for installation which include the requirement of installing the bar 33-36 inches from the floor.

Save yourself some money and have a sparkling clean toilet bowl by making your own potty pods.  Ingredients needed are 1 cup of baking soda, 1/4 cup powdered citric acid, and 1 tablespoon plus dish soap, preferably Dawn.  After mixing these ingredients into a dough like consistency, press into a silicon ice cube tray (small size cubes).  Freeze tray for 30 minutes.  Remove pods to a jar and place in the bathroom to be used with flushes.  I think I would use every third or fourth flush, but they can be used with every flush. You will still have to use your toilet brush to periodically clean under the rim. Watch this video to learn the specific process to accomplish this project. #dreamlandinteriors
