Points to Consider When Choosing A Window Treatment

9/18/2017

1.  Privacy and Light Control
Choose your window treatment wisely to control light filtration into a room.  The lighting can set a mood, provide privacy, damage furniture, keep UV rays out of a space,  etc.

2.  Insulation and Sun Protection
50% of heating and cooling is lost through windows and doors.  Blind fabrics now come with UV protection.

3.  Window Shape and Size
Sometimes you have to combine types of window treatments in a room because there are a variety of door and window types.  Some treatments are better for odd shaped openings than others, although shutters have come a long way to adapt to various openings.

4.  Operating System
Automated systems are great for hard to reach places or for extra large window treatments.

5.  Room Conditions
Bathrooms are subject to heat and humidity.  Faux wood blinds, vinyl or aluminum blinds, or antimicrobial fabrics would be best in a bathroom area.

6.  Maintenance
Take into consideration how you will keep your window treatments clean.  Some window treatments can be dusted, others blasted with the vacuum cleaner, or purchase fabrics that are dust, soil, and stain resistant.

7.  Design Style
Choose a window or door covering that matches the style of the room.  For example,  sleek fabric shades are very contemporary while shutters are more country cottage.

Visit the Hunter Douglas Website for a vast gallery of choices.  Let Dreamland Interiors help you with your window treatment design.  We are familiar with the latest trends, fabrics, products, and designs.

DIY Curtain

I saw this project on the HGTV website.  They used chiffon fabric, a curtain rod, and scissors.  I would have made all the strips the same length.  Another neat idea is to use bracelets as tie-backs.

Let Dreamland Interiors, Inc. help you with your custom drape/curtain projects and shutter purchases.

Window Treatment Trends

7/4/2017

Choosing a window treatment takes much planning, shopping, as well as being a major investment.  It is wise to seek help if you feel overwhelmed.  Right now in 2017, verticals and floral fabric patterns for draperies are out.

Some of the trending window treatments are shutters, blinds, shades, and panels.

Natural wood, bambo, and matchstick woven shades are very popular.  Many use the Roman shade design.

Panel blinds on a track system are being used.  You can choose from hundreds of fabrics.  Fabrics can be light filtering or solar protective, etc.  They derive from Asian screens.

Another trending look is remote control window blinds used in conjunction with a layer of fabric.

Special fabrics are manufactured that protect those who suffer from allergies.  Fabrics can be purchased that are anti-microbial, anti-fungal, mildew resistant, and contain non-toxic dyes.

Floor to ceiling drapes are very dramatic and are now used in bedrooms, living rooms, and dining rooms.
Soft flowing panels are used with blinds today to insure both privacy and warmth.

Silks, geometric patterns, blues paired with whites, and fabrics with bold contrasting colors such as black and white stripes are in style.

Let Dreamland Interiors, Inc.  help you with your window treatment needs.

Window Treatment Options

6/1/2017

Window coverings are not only necessary for privacy and to control temperature, but they also enhance the atmosphere of a room.  I have gotten some good ideas from various hotels and timeshare units where I have stayed.  But, my best source of inspiration is interviewing my clients to determine their tastes and needs and seeing the rooms where the window treatments will be installed.

Vertical blinds are out.  Shutters and Roman shades are in.

Solar shades, Roman shades, roller shades, woven wood shades, wood blinds are all good options. Curtains and drapes have never gone out of style.

There are many things to consider when choosing a curtain or drape.  Heading options include tab tops, pleated, gathered, multi-layered, cornice, scalloped,  etc.  The style you prefer has to be decided, the window size and the room size has to be measured.

You also have to consider the finish of the curtain rod or track.  Some finish possibilities are wood, steel, antique brass, brushed nickel, painted, etc.  You may want to dress up the rod with a special finial on either end.

Another decision you will have to make is the length of the drape/curtain--window length, wall length, ceiling hung, etc.  Looks may be combined such as a pleated curtain with a Roman shade.  Bigger windows will require extra fullness.  Pleated headers are usually associated with the traditional look, while gathered headings are more casual.  It is best to line drapes/curtains for longer wear.  If the room has a busy look to it, you would be wise to chose a plain fabric.

You can easily dress up a drape/curtain by adding a contrasting color border, use tie backs, scallop the hem, add beading, add eyelets, etc.  The possibilities are endless.

Dreamland Interiors has extensive experience measuring and installing shutters which come in a variety of styles and finishes.   Dreamland Interiors also assists clients with their custom drapery and blind needs.  A technician and designer would set up an appointment to assist you with your window treatment project at your convenience.
