A brand new marble counter top has a high gloss finish.  It is prone to etching if anything acidic touches the stone. You can get a very pronounced ring called etching from a glass that contains something acidic like lemonade. I found a powder on Amazon that is a miracle worker for marble and granite! It is called MB Stone Care.  All you need is a little water, a cloth and some elbow grease.  Check out their website.  They carry other products to care for granite, travertine, grout, mildew and rust removal, sealants, etc.
