According to HGTV, a kitchen remodel of a room 12 x 12 ft. should cost the homeowner from $17,000 to $37,000.  A kitchen remodel will improve the space if an oversized sink is installed, a foot-pedal controlled faucet or a touch faucet is included, soft-closing cabinet hinges are used, and a refrigerator with the freezer in a lower drawer or a French door style unit is purchased.  Lighting is also very important in the kitchen.  Combine overhead lighting, decorative lighting, and task lighting for the best results.  Houzz recommends appliance garages set at countertop level.  This allows the homeowner to keep their appliances plugged in but concealed behind closed doors.
