According to the U.S. Home Safety Council, more accidents happen in the bathroom than any other room in the house due to the storage of medications and the presence of water sources, electrical outlets and electrical appliances.
It is common sense to safely store supplies, have adults supervise children around water, and clean up slippery surfaces to reduce the chance of injuries. But in addition, consider the following checklist to insure everyone's safety. Bathroom safety checklist: 1. Keep water heater set at 120 degrees or less to prevent scalding. 2. Check that electrical outlets are grounded (GFCI). 3. Equip showers and tubs with non-skid suction cup mats or textured strips. 4. Use bar soap in tub, not slippery liquid soap. 5. Have a phone near the bathroom in case of emergencies. 6. Have a night light in the bathroom. 7. Install grab bars in the tub. The grab bars come in decorative designs now. Follow codes for installation which include the requirement of installing the bar 33-36 inches from the floor. 8. Check out www.safekids.org website for additional tips.

Just as slip covers are making a come back, so is the resurgence of interest in table skirts. Check out this Pinterest site for ideas.

They are always coming out with new tech devices for the home. Let's concentrate on the new bathroom devices today. If you enjoy your morning news, podcast, or music with your shower, consider purchasing a bluetooth showerhead speaker. If you are on a quest to improve your physique and health, you may want to purchase a smart bathroom scale that tracks your weight, BMI, and body fat percentage. You can than access the information with your phone or computer and/or input the information into your FitBit. We have heard of towel heating racks, but now they have warming drawers in various sizes for your drying comfort. Another new device is the LED shower drain cover that changes color according to the amount of water used during your shower. The controls for the cover can be adjusted to the length of shower you plan to take based on your desired water consumption. Great device for conservationist. Perhaps the most common new, innovative device is the touch-free faucet that makes it possible for you to clean up without spreading a mess or spreading germs. There is no end to man's ingenuity and I am sure there will be more gadgets to appear on the market in the near future. Water-Activated LED Shower Drain Cover

If you are in search of a spot to install built-in bookcases, check out the space around your doors or windows. Dress up bookshelves by installing picture lights above the top-most shelf and direct the beam downward. Another choice would be to have built-in shelves constructed above a buffet, counter, console, window seat, etc.
Perhaps you have open shelving in your kitchen, pantry, dining room, etc. that you could match and have extended. #dreamlandinteriors #bookshelves #built-inbookshelf #IKEA #crownmolding #shelving When you are in need of help on a major repair or new project, consider the following advice when choosing a contractor. 1. Have open communication with the person you are considering. They should be willing to answer questions. Take notes on the agreed work and draw up a signed contract. 2. If you are considering repairing or completing the project yourself and have any doubt about your abilities to handle the job, you would be wise to hire a pro. 3. When a problem is identified, it is best to take care of it immediately. Waiting only compounds the problem. If it is the AC for instance, parts may need ordered which could delay the repair. 4. Avoid hiring someone who solicits door to door for work. 5. It is best to address the cause of the problem, rather than throwing a quick fix to the problem. This would especially be true with a septic system, a roof, a plumbing leak, etc. 6. Acquire at least three bids. Be cautious of overly high or low bids. 7. Check out jobs completed by the contractor you are considering and ask for references. 8. Don't pay up front. Set up a payment schedule based on the stages of completion. #dreamlandinteriors #contractor #homeremodeling #HVC #DIYprojects #homeimprovement

A fun summer project that can involve the whole family is to give your child's room a new look. Let them make suggestions and selections. Here are some easy and quick transformations. -Frame pictures of family and friends to display on dressers, bookcases, or walls. They can take pictures and make the selections. -Paint all or part of the room. Fun to bring home paint samples to make a smart decision. Make designs. Use decals. -Paint an old dresser or bookcase. Add new knobs. -Hang a fancy scarf, fabric, sheer drape, etc. behind the headboard. -Set up a painting area for art projects or set up a small table for puzzles or games. -Go thrifting and find an old chair to use in a reading corner. -Hang a mirror on the wall that will brighten up the room. -Add an area rug. -Add some decorative bins to organize clothes, toys, craft supplies, etc. #dreamlandinteriors #kidsbedroom #painting #summerremodel #kidsspace #playrooms #arearug I saw this project on the HGTV website. They used chiffon fabric, a curtain rod, and scissors. I would have made all the strips the same length. Another neat idea is to use bracelets as tie-backs.
